Summer Fashion Trend is Comfort

Everyone has her own style.  And, despite the interference of each region’s climate, we are influenced by the season’s trends.  But what defines this trend?  Fashion!  What we wear, do, and carry.

Lucia Wander, bachelor in Fashion, specialising in Cultural Journalism and Semiotics, and graduated in Arts, currently teaches Marketing and Fashion Trends at SENAC.

She says that we remember the period by the fashion.  In the 70’s, for example, bell-bottom trousers with a high waist, silk shirts and short, full-bodied hairstyles were in fashion.  The film “Saturday Night Fever”, starring John Travolta, reminds us of the clothing and behaviour of young people in the 70’s.

Lucia has been living in Curitiba for nearly a year.  As she could not fail to notice, the capital has different trends to other states, principally in the summer.  “Even on a typical 28ºC summer day it is essential to carry or wear warmer tops and jackets, because the temperature changes very quickly here and can become quite cold at nightfall”.

Influences like this differentiate summer fashion in Curitiba from other regions of the country.  In January, purples, oranges and yellows will be the predominant colours seen on the capital’s streets.  According to Lucia, long dresses and very short skirts accompanied by flip-flops and flowered bags are a strong trend.

Floral-print clothes and colourful, flowered accessories, both with contrasting colours, as well as flowing dresses refer to femininity.  In this summer season it is comfort that counts: low, closed pumps provide this and go with jeans, dresses and shorts.

Lightweight jackets for the evening go with the city’s climate and also with day-to-day clothing.  Large bags with patterns, stripes or polka-dots are the thing.  Sandals and stilettos guarantee elegance, and platform sandals provide comfort.  At night, thin-strapped sandals go well, and can be used, with a pair of satin shorts and a basic tee-shirt, as well as accessories to complete the look.  More important than any trend is that you are comfortable, as discomfort causes inelegance.  “The most important thing is that you feel good in what you are wearing”, says Lucia.
