Brazilian Bums are Best
Brazilian women are famous all over the world for their prominent and profound bums or buttocks. Just as women in Sweden are known for their blonde hair and blue eyes, Brazilian women are known for their bums. There is a contest held every year known as the Miss Bumbum Brazil contest.
It is not surprising then that the desire for a desirous bum is a common occurrence in Brazil. Many Brazilian women who are not happy with the size or shape of their bums have it enhanced through plastic surgery. Doctors remove fat from the woman’s abdomen and inject it into the buttocks, or butt as it’s commonly called in the US.
What is surprising is that women from the US have become interested in this same plastic surgery procedure. While cultural trends, like technology, often arrive first in the US before coming to Brazil, in this case a trend is moving in the opposite direction.
This reverse trend movement first began with women in the US changing their grooming habits regarding body hair removal. While in the past, most American women shaved their legs and armpits to remove body hair, waxing has now become popular in the US, as it has been for many years in Brazil. There is even a waxing technique that is known as the “Brazilian bikini wax” that refers to removing all of the woman’s pubic hair, which has become popular among American actresses and women who model nude or in lingerie, for example in Playboy.
Now, doctors in the US are reporting a large increase in “butt lifts” in the US. American women are asking for larger butts in such great numbers that the surgical procedure has been named the “Brazilian butt lift.”
According to the website RealSelf, the most popular city in the US for Brazilian butt lifts is New York. At least 378,000 New Yorkers searched the RealSelf website for information about the plastic surgery between November 2013 and January 2014, the site’s reps say. That’s more than three times as many as Los Angeles, Miami, and Atlanta.
Observers suggest there has been a shift in the idea of beauty among New Yorkers. “It’s like fitness is a fashion statement. Curvy in the right places is the new sexy,” said one Brazilian butt lift patient from Brooklyn, who is 35 years old.
Dr. David Shafer, a Manhattan plastic surgeon who specializes in butt lifts, says the operation has definitely become more popular in recent months. “It’s a shift in a woman’s image away from the anorexic-looking model that the fashion magazines tell women they’re supposed to look like,” said the doctor. He says he consults with six to eight patients each week on Brazilian butt lifts, just as many as are requesting breast implants.
In New York, the surgery for a butt lift costs between U$8,000 and U$12,000.
