Fast-Food Must be Delivered in Sealed Containers

As of November 22, a new Municipal Law is in place that makes the use of inviolable seals on the containers of fast food for delivery to customers’ homes obligatory. The measure is aimed at avoiding possible contamination at the hands of people who did not participate in the production process.

The law must be complied with by pizza shops, restaurants, snack bars and all other companies that deliver food and drinks for immediate consumption in Curitiba. Establishments from the towns in the metropolitan region will also have to adapt to the law if they wish to make deliveries in Curitiba; if not, they will have to refuse orders originating from the City.

The safety or protective seal is obligatory on the delivery containers. In the case of drinks, it  is only necessary on those bottled or packaged at the establishment. The safety seal must also bear the information that, if it is broken upon arrival at the consumer’s home, the product may be returned.

Fines

The fine for those who do not follow the law is R$100 per unsealed container and, should they re-offend, R$1,000 per container and their licence revoked. Inspection, already in force, is being carried out by the Public Health Department of the Municipal Health Secretariat.
