Bicycle Parking Spaces
The Curitiba City Council approved a first-round draft law that stipulates parking spaces for bicycles be made available in the city. Under the proposal, authored by Councilman João Claudio Derosso (PSDB), the spaces may be offered in covered bicycle parks (public or private), where the bikes can stay for a long period; or by cycle stops, designated places in the street for parking bikes for short or medium-length periods.
The City Council announced that the discussion of the proposal would be removed from the Council agenda for ten sessions. The suspension is so that two documents, also related to encouraging bicycle use, can be added to the proposal and the exact number of spaces for bicycles to be made available in the city can be defined.
