New Trees Along Teffé Street

Teffé Street will receive more trees in the Bom Retiro neighborhood. The implementation of the Curitiba Beltway, which will cross Teffé, includes the planting of the 142 new native trees along an 800-meter swath of the road. Besides this improvement, new landscaping, sidewalks, paving and street lighting are also scheduled.

The Curitiba Beltway is a project that will create an alternate route for traffic around the downtown area with the aim of reducing vehicle traffic in the city center and improve public transport flow. The Beltway will consist of 23 streets, with two sets of streets connecting to the flow around downtown, one clockwise and the other counterclockwise.

For implementation of the Beltway on Teffé Street, trees will be relocated along the street, as many of them are misaligned. Also 52 exotic trees will be replaced by natives, contributing to the maintenance of biodiversity of the city. At the end of the project, the stretch of street from Don Alberto Gonçalves Street to Roberto Barrozo Street will have 142 trees, nearly doubling the number of trees along the stretch, which now has 72. Among the species scheduled for planting on Teffé are pau-ferro, quaresmeira, ipê e dedalheiro.

Besides the improvement in tree cover, the City is planning the construction of new sidewalks made of non-slip concrete paverment, with access ramps for the physically disabled and elderly. This same surface will be used throughout the Beltway, a total of 25 kilometers (11.9 km in the clockwise direction and 13.4 kilometers in the counter clockwise direction) of streets and avenues in the neighborhoods surrounding the center of the city.

With the inclusion of Teffé Street in the project, residents of the street will have better access to the Beltway, in both clockwise and counter clockwise directions. Teffé Street will be one-way only in the Bom Retiro and Mercês neighborhoods. Its residents may use the Beltway to travel more easily counterclockwise around the city, tracing a route which passes through the neighborhoods of Bom Retiro, Mercês, Água Verde, Rebouças e Jardim Botânico.

To use the Beltway clockwise, cars coming from Teffé Street can enter Roberto Barrozo Street and proceed toward Centro Cívico, easily reaching neighborhoods such as Ahu, Juvevê, Alto da Glória and Alto da XV. With the inclusion of Teffé Street in the Beltway, Curitiba residents also will notice improved transit from Teffé Street to neighborhoods such as Mercês  and Vista Alegre.
