The city of Curitiba is relandscaping flower beds in city parks and squares. Teams from the Municipal Secretary of the Environment are planting seedlings of marigolds, blue and red salvias and petunias to welcome tourists for Carnival.
“This is a permanent and growing part of the preservation policy for our city parks, which are visited this time of year by tourists and Curitiba residents during the holidays,” said Mayor Luciano Ducci.

Flowers have been planted in construction sites, small gardens, squares, and along streets, such as Comendador Franco, Manoel Ribas and Wenceslão Braz. On Friday, teams worked in and around the Centro Cívico neighborhood. On Monday, the work concentrated on city parks, such as Tanguá, Tingui and the Botanical Garden.

In the Botanical Garden, all of the central flower beds will be replanted with marigolds and salvias, in yellow, orange, red and white. The new garden will be irrigated with water from the lake in the Botanic Garden, whose water is recycled and pumped out to avoid wasting the natural resource.

On the Green Line, teams are planting new trees and flowers. Between St. Bernardethe Station and Pinheirinho Terminal Jerivá, one thousand palm trees as well as a hundred Butiá palms and tree ferns will be planted.

In the central flowers beds of the Xaxim neighborhood, the Municipal Secretary of Environment will plant xaxim, or tree ferns, a species in danger of extinction. The seedlings were a gift fromthe Botanical Museum of Curitiba. The intention of this planting is to associate Xaxim with the plant from which the neighborhood derives its name.
